As an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, a mother of three, a daughter, a friend and a mentor to many, Dr Kate Walsh understands the challenges women face and is passionate about enabling women to live happy and healthy lives. Both in medicine and in life, she makes it her mission to empower the women around her to make their own choices. Choosing their birth, choosing to control their periods and choosing what symptoms they are happy with and which they are not.
There is nothing that makes Kate happier than watching women in labour. The strength they show, the miracle of the birth process, as well as witnessing the love and tenderness that their support people provide. It truly is an honour to be included in this space and Kate sees her role in that room as to ensure the choices made align with your values and wishes, whilst also ensuring your baby arrives save and well. Kate supports births at both Burnside Hospital and North Eastern Community Hospital.
Through her years of practice, Kate has developed a focus on minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and works with a multidisciplinary team to optimise her patients’ recovery from severe endometriosis, multiple fibroids and heavy periods. She is also accredited to offer vNOTES hysterectomies, prolapse repairs and intrauterine procedures.
Kate's dedication to women's empowerment is reflected in her efforts to enhance global health outcomes, as she regularly travels to Namibia with Health Volunteers International (HVI). Furthermore, her fervour for cutting-edge healthcare has led her to play significant roles in numerous state and national committees as well her ongoing role as a staff specialist within SA Health.
Kate believes in partnering with her patients to uncover the best way for them to achieve their goals. Whether that be managing their pain and periods, guiding them through their pregnancy, ensuring their birth is an empowering experience or assisting with other stages of life – she wants to tackle the challenges life throws their way together, so that they can focus on making the most of all the opportunities life has to offer.
